About me

Biography

I studied Electrical Engineering and Information Technology at the Technische Universität München (Germany). After my Bachelor studies (2010-2013) I consecutively received the Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in 2016. In March 2016, I joined the Chair of Media Technology at the Technische Universität München as a research associate where I received my Engineering Doctorate in August 2019. In September 2019, I started my appointment at Stanford University as Visiting Assistant Professor while leading the Visual Computing and Artifical Intelligence (VCAI) group at the Max-Planck Center for Visual Computing and Communication (MPC-VCC). My research interests comprise artificial intelligence, visual computing and communication, as well as the extensive field of mobile robotics.

Junior Research Group Program

MPC-VCC, Stanford University

Amazing news!

I got selected for the Junior Research Group Program sponsored by the Max-Planck Center for Visual Computing and Communication (MPC-VCC). The MPC-VCC selects a small number of outstanding young scientists. The Junior Reserach Program is financially supported by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research. It begins with a preparatory 1-2 year postdoc phase (Phase P) at the Max Planck Institute for Informatics, followed by a two-year appointment at Stanford University (Phase I) as a visiting assistant professor, and then a position at the Max Planck Institute for Informatics as a junior research group leader (Phase II). The MPC-VCC granted me the option to skip the preparatory phase, making me the youngest visiting assistant professor at Stanford since the program launched in 2002. I feel very honored to have Prof. Bernd Girod as my mentor at Stanford University.

The Nokia Bell Labs Student Award 2018

At the Nokia Innovation Days 2018 in Stuttgart, I received the Nokia Bell Labs Student Award 2018 for my research in „Towards Virtual Human Teleportation: Realtime 3D 360° Telepresence„. The award was presented by Peter Merz, Head of Standardization Research, and Ulrich Barth, Head of Smart Wireless Networks at Nokia Bell Labs.

My reserach poster was selected and invited out of a great pool of international submissions. The selection criteria have been:

  • Relevance of research to the community,
  • Clear statement of objectives,
  • Innovative components in research,
  • Reliability of the proposed results & adequacy of methods used in research, and
  • Clear outcomes from the research

After presenting my work to a prestigious jury, I was allowed to give a pitch in front of the entire audience together with two other finalists. Although my two fellow campaigners performed well, I was honored to win and receive the Nokia Bell Labs Student Award 2018
